The author was born in Tennessee, spent his early years in Virginia, and returned to Tennessee to attend and graduate from Carson Newman College. He later attended the University of Tennessee for graduate studies in political science and subsequently graduated from UT law school. He started his law practice in the fall of 1978 focusing primarily on title and real estate law. As an avid hiker and photographer, he has traveled throughout the US, Europe, Central and South America. He has written human interest stories for the Knoxville News Sentinel, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Freeman, AAA Going Places, SouthernReader and other publications. He is married and he and his wife are the parents of three grown children. Besides basketball, his six grandchildren provide enough exercise to keep his heart beating regularly.
